The iconic Albert Kahn designed factory on Buffalo’s East Side is the host for this year’s echo Art Fair. This fine art exposition caters to connoisseurs and budding hobbyists alike, offering everything from painting, photography and performance art to sculptures, videos and mixed media. The juried event features the works of 33 emerging and established artists as well as 10 national galleries and 10 interactive installation pieces. The weekend-long art extravaganza begins Friday evening at 6 p.m. with the Opening Preview Party.
Dragon Boat Festival (June 18, 2016, RiverWorks)
Experience the grandeur of South China’s exhilarating dragon boat racing as the local community bands together to paddle for a purpose. The annual Hope Chest Buffalo Niagara Dragon Boat Festival celebrates breast cancer survivors and offers a fun-filled day of family-bonding activities. The majestic sport features novice and expert teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steer person competing for top honors at the evening’s Awakening the Dragon Ceremony.
Buffalo Pride Festival (May 31-June 5, 2016, Various Locations)
Celebrating its 25th year of community engagement, an anticipated 30,000 participants will take part in this year’s Buffalo Pride Festival. The week kicks off on Tuesday with a flag raising ceremony and continues the following day with the community sing. On Thursday, don your most fabulous fitness outfit for a 5k evening fun run. The weeklong festivities also include an LGBTQ art exhibit, an energetic dance party and the exuberant Pride Parade. Pride Festival ends on Sunday at Canalside, where you can dance, shop and participate in family-friendly activities.
Wurstfest! (June 26, 2016, River Fest Park)
Dubbed the “Wurst Party in Buffalo,” the German-American Musicians Association is once again preparing to host its annual salute to sausage, beer and Gemütlichkeit. The spirited event includes enticing prizes for competing in the Stein Hoist and for the Best Dressed Bavarian. Folk musicians serenade revelers as they sample limited batch beer from souvenir mugs, snack on hand-roasted nuts or buy Dirndls from local vendors.
