None of Them Involve Chicken Wings
Welcome to Buffalo where more than 258,000 happy locals know how to enjoy the city. Your invitation is always open, so take these eight tips from folks who know the Queen City best, and be sure to hit their favorite spots.
1. Niagara Falls State Park – Barrels are so yesterday, but you can still go for the thrills on a Maid of the Mist tour. Interested in a little underwater fun? Check out the Discovery Center’s amazing aquarium, and then get your feet wet at Cave of the Winds.
2. The Buffalo Zoo – Walk on the wild side across 23 acres of creeks, coves and rain forests populated by wolves, sea lions and elephants. The resident bison herd remains a crowd favorite, but be prepared to share sidewalks with the zoo’s proud peacocks.
3. Ralph Wilson Stadium – If you’re a hardcore NFL fan, catch a Buffalo Bills home stand at the Ralph. If you’re a hard-rocking concert junkie, catch world-renowned musical acts. If you just love huge open-air stadiums, this proud venue is always worth a drive-by.
4. First Niagara Center – When was the last time you saw a hat trick on ice? It can happen when the Buffalo Sabres blast the barn and bring this hockey-loving city to its collective feet. First Niagara always lives up to its reputation as the city’s premier entertainment center.
5. The Pierce-Arrow Museum – It’s fitting that a collection of vintage wheels found permanent parking in a former Mack Truck dealership. It’s incredible that this amazing venue also houses a filling station designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1927 and built in 2013.
6. Forest Lawn Cemetery – You’ve never toured a historic cemetery? Each Sunday during summer offers a unique stroll back in time across manicured grounds filled with sculptures and monuments dating back 150 years including Mr. Wright’s serene Blue Sky Mausoleum.
7. Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium – Fly to the moon and stars, and marvel at their luminescent wonder. Spend an evening exploring planets, constellations and nebulae at Buffalo’s State University of New York. It all happens on campus in the Science Building.
8. Canalside – More than 21 acres of riverside parkland grace Buffalo’s beautiful waterfront offering everything from fishing and kayaking to Adirondack chair lounging. This is where the city lights up at night with delicious dining and eclectic club diving.
