SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Tops Supermarkets is a step closer to opening a store on the south side of Syracuse early next year. If approved, the proposed store will be located in Valley Plaza on South Salina Street.
Tuesday, members of the Syracuse Industrial Development Agency approved the re-allocation of $275,000 in state funding. The re-allocation needs approval by the state and a public hearing will be scheduled next month.
“We’re going to go back, asking to reallocate the money. We have every indication that will happen. And, there will be a $275,000 grant to the Tops project,” said William Ryan, SIDA Chairman.
“Ellicott Development Corporation and the Tops grocery store are finalizing a lease depending on the city by city grant and also some other money. We think it’s very good news and people will very shortly see a Tops grocery store in the Valley Plaza,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner.
Tops officials say if the grant is approved, they hope to complete the project and host a grand opening in 2012.
