A $15 million luxury apartment-hotel-retail project — the first of its kind in the region — was fast-tracked by the Amherst Town Board on Monday night. The 4.6-acre development will feature a 105-room Staybridge Suites hotel and two other buildings with first-floor retail and 42 luxury apartments.

Charter School Finds Home on Lafayette Avenue
A former hospital turned apartment building will have a new use later this summer: a school. West Buffalo Charter School (WBCS) has finally found a school site in the former Lafayette Hospital at 113 Lafayette Avenue, corner of Barton Street. WBCS is expecting to welcome its first students in the fall.

Construction Watch: Bellesara/Former Allentown Athletix
Allentown will soon have an additional eight residential units when Ellicott Development completes their conversion of the former Allentown Athletix building on Allen, near Delaware Avenue. Amherst IDA gives lift to Paladino project
With the last two approvals secured, Ellicott Development Co. is poised to begin work within the next month on turning the Stereo Advantage property along Main Street into a mixed-use project anchored by a hotel and apartments.
The Amherst Planning Board, on Jan. 19. signed off on an environmental review and the Amherst Industrial Development Agency , on Jan. 20, unanimously approved an incentive package that’s critical to financing the $22.74 million project.

Two old ladies were the headliners for downtown development last year. Mark Croce's purchase and investment in the Statler and Rocco Termini's ongoing work at the Hotel Lafayette are significant in themselves.
